Skagway, Alaska
My girlfriend calls them amenities. Little perks you get by dating me. It's not why she's with me, but it's a bonus. Like when you check into a hotel and they tell you get a free drink at the bar. Just a nice little something extra. Her amenity is that I get free Captain D's. I'm not a huge fan of Captain D's, nor is it on my mind really at all, but her aunt works for corporate and we have an endless supply of Captain D's gift cards.
One of my random amenities is that I just happened to know the mayor of Skagway. We used to work together at a distillery in Chattanooga. She eventually moved to Skagway with her husband and later became the mayor. So when we went to Skagway, we got the hook up and were able to experience a lot of really great things!
Where to Drink:
White Pass Coffee Bar
Odds are, if you're here, you just got off of a cruise ship. You're going to need a coffee. Inside of an old trainstation that's been converted into a shopping center is this little kiosk. Simple coffee drinks and snacks, but it's what you're going to need for a day of excursions.
The Station Bar & Grill
Crab legs and a crispy beer. Nothing better than this. This place is a decent size haunt yet still fills up fast. The drink menu isn't anything fancy, but a couple of local beers and shot of whiskey is all you really need.
Red Onion Saloon
A former brothel with great cocktails and a fun energy. This place is an active museum and offers a tour of the old brothel upstairs. Filled with theatrics and great showmanship, the tour is absolutely worth doing.
Skagway Brewing Company
I wouldn't believe a brewery this size would ever be needed in a town like this, but I suppose when half of your year is catering to thousands of people coming off of cruise ships, it's likely the do need this large of a production facility. The beer here is great, and so is the food. It's a large place with plenty of seating and a great outdoor area.
